Understanding Invisalign Treatment with Your Dental Insurance

Understanding Invisalign Treatment with Your Dental Insurance

If you are concerned about Invisalign and how it works with your dental insurance, Catonsville Dental Care is here to help.

If you are a candidate for Invisalign treatment, congratulations! You’re on the road toward your new smile. However, Invisalign is a dental treatment that requires payment. Like most dental care, the cost and time of the Invisalign treatment may discourage some people from pursuing it. But a straight smile free from crowding, spacing issues, and underbites can be well worth the price. If you are concerned about Invisalign and how it works with your dental insurance, Catonsville Dental Care is here to help you understand what to expect.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

First, gather the facts about Invisalign. Every treatment plan is customized based on the patient’s needs. Similar to metal braces that do similar work, Invisalign often costs several thousand dollars. However, that doesn’t mean you need to pay that price out of pocket all at once.

Will My Insurance Cover Invisalign Treatments?

If you have dental insurance, it may cover the cost of your Invisalign treatments, at least in part. Insurance may often cover Invisalign like it pays for conventional braces. If your insurance covers this treatment, your policy will potentially pay a pre-set percentage of the treatment’s cost or up to a predetermined dollar amount.

If your insurance has a cap on how much it will pay, your treatment will no longer be covered after that point, and you will have to cover the rest. To make sure you understand your dental insurance coverage regarding Invisalign, contact your insurance provider or your employer’s HR department.

What If My Insurance Doesn’t Cover Invisalign?

All hope is not lost! There are other ways you may be able to pay for Invisalign.

  • Your Spouse’s Dental Insurance: Check with your spouse’s provider to see if additional coverage is available through their plan.
  • HSA or FSA Account: You may be able to use your health savings account or flexible spending account through your employer, you may use the funds from the account to pay for your treatment. If you don’t exhaust the funds in your FSA account, you will lose the remaining funds in your account. If you don’t need the funds for anything else, consider using them for Invisalign!
  • Interest-Free Lenders: Some lenders will lend money to cover the cost of medical procedures. One such program is Care Credit, which works like a credit card specifically used for medical care. Typically, your amount is interest-free for a limited time, such as 12 months. If you don’t pay off your loan in that time, your lender will charge interest that dates back to the day you took the loan. To avoid interest, make sure you pay off your loan within that interest-free period.
  • Full Up-Front Payment: Depending on where you receive your Invisalign treatment, you may be able to decrease the overall cost of your treatment by agreeing to pay for it in full up-front. You can even use a credit card and earn rewards through your bank! Just make sure you pay off your expenses promptly before interest builds up.
  • Payment Plans: Many Invisalign specialists offer payment plans for treatment. Some provide interest-free payment plans and will work with you to ensure your monthly payment fits your budget.
