Summer is synonymous with enjoying sweet, delicious treats. When you care about your dental health, a lot of sugar intake probably isn’t a part of your everyday diet. Nor should it be. However, you may be pleasantly surprised that there are delicious summer recipes that won’t ruin your teeth. It’s common knowledge that dark chocolate is less offensive than other treats, but were you aware of these other foods? Today we’ll be sharing some dentist-approved summer recipes.
Fresh Fruits are Fantastic
We know that you’ve heard about the dangers of overindulging in acidic fruits time and time again. Still take that advice to heart, but focus on the less damaging fruits like apples and pears. These fruits can help keep your teeth clean in between daily brushing because they produce saliva and can neutralize the acid on the surface of your teeth?
So, what’s the summer recipe? Put pears and apple into your salad along with a combination of grapes, peaches, berries, and watermelons. A fruit salad or salads mixed with fruit, nuts, and veggies are excellent for your dental health and satisfy your sweet tooth.
Fire Up That Grill
We want to redefine the way that you think of a burger. Veggie burgers help to protect your teeth because they are rich in phosphorous and Vitamin B3. These are nutrients that support healthy gums and durable tooth enamel. If you love meat, you may skip over this summer recipe, but we encourage you to try something new and let us know how the burger tasted. Here’s an idea for a delicious veggie burger:
- Cook 1/2 a cup of brown rice with a minimal amount of salt to add flavor (we recommend a teaspoon)
- Remove the liquid from a can of black beans and mash them up in a mixing bowl
- Mince a small onion and 1/2 of green pepper and three cloves of garlic
^ Add the veggie mix to your black beans
- Use a separate bowl to beat an egg and add in 1 tablespoon of chili pepper, salt, hot sauce, and cumin each
- Pour your egg mixture and brown rice into the bowl with your black beans and veggies
- Mix the ingredients until the mixture is thick enough to enjoy patties
- Grill the patties and enjoy!
How to Still Enjoy Ice Cream
Let’s be honest. Summer is nothing without ice cream! But there are surely ways that you can reduce the sugar intake. You can use natural ingredients like bananas, cut them into slices, freeze them for about two hours, and then blend them in a blender until you get a creamy consistency. Add dark chocolate, berries, peanut butter, and nuts into the mix. But don’t overdo it!
