Valentine’s Day is just about upon us. We want it to be as sweet as possible—but as always, we want to take a moment to talk about something that’s always serious: your teeth. Valentine’s Day may be a time to enjoy the company of loved ones, but it’s always important to take care of your dental healthcare. On Valentine’s Day, remember these dental tips to keep your pearly whites as healthy and polished as they can be as well as some other fun tips for the holiday.
Be Careful With Sweets
As always, we’d like you to be careful with anything sweet containing a lot of sugar. These always cause some damage to your teeth. You don’t need to avoid sweets altogether but just stick to moderation. If you want to avoid the worst offenders, stay away from sticky or chewy candies. Chocolates that are more typical of Valentine’s Day aren’t as bad, but either way, you’re going to want to brush and floss.
What to Avoid
On the night of Valentine’s Day, you may want to have breath that smells great. Avoiding the foods that cause bacteria can help you keep away any smelly breath issues. Dairy isn’t the best option, specifically cheese or milk. Certain kinds of chocolate can also cause bad breath so consider saving the candy for the end of the night.
Drinking Wine
Many of us end up enjoying a glass of wine with our Valentine’s Day dinners. After you’re done, you may want to brush right away—especially if you’ve just had a glass or two of red wine! While we don’t want to discourage anyone from brushing, just wait an hour until you do so. Wine is so acidic that brushing right away can just spread that acid around. Wait an hour or two before you brush.
The Gift of Pearly Whites
Are you looking for a last-minute gift? Helping a loved one invest in their dental health is never a bad idea. You can help them get their teeth whitened and make their smile match how they make you feel. A fancy electric toothbrush to replace their old traditional toothbrush is never a bad idea either!
